Chapter 13 - Writing as a tool of Reflective Practice: sketches from inside the split milieu of an eating disorder unit by Ben Davidson

In chapter thirteen Ben Davidson draws on experience as a student psychiatric nurse to sketch out some of the ethical dilemmas facing practitioners working within a culture that is split. The experience on which the chapter is based occured on an in-patient eating disorder unit. The conflict between forms of physical treatment and psychological care are drawn out, as are a number of complicated dynamics within and between the staff and patient groups. Ben argues that by remaining alive to, and obstinately committed to communicating one's experience, by writing and other means, it is possible to find a role in such a situation.
