James
M Brown, BA, MA, MSc, is a Senior Lecturer in
Philosophy at the University of Ulster at Coleraine in Northern Ireland. His is
interested in formal and informal logic, epistemology, philosophy of science,
and especially theoretical and applied ethics. He is the author of articles in
philosophy and nursing journals and co-author with A. Kitson and T. McNight of
Challenges in Caring (Chapman and Hall, 1992). He has the support of his wife
and three daughters and is fond of jazz. See chapter
