Sally
Cameron was born in Leeds in 1961. Her last year at
Keele University was overshadowed by the diagnosis of a severe illness, but she
graduated in 1983. Moving to London, she worked as a nursing auxiliary until her
illness forced her to retire. It was then that she started writing short stories,
a number of which have been published during the time the current text has been
in preparation. See Walking,
in Short Circuits, edited by Melanie Silgardo, published by Virago. Sally
also created and tended a community garden which won a European-wide competition
as an oasis in the midst of the squalor of London's East End, and she took up
(informally) the position of housing co-op 'counsellor-in-residence'. Sally's
sudden death on 10 June 1996 was devastating to her family, her many close friends
and all who knew and loved her. See chapter
10.
